FAQs

How long does it take to receive my order?

All orders are generally processed within 24 hours.  When we receive your order, we start making your leashes and/or long lines. If we are unable to fulfill your order within 24 hours, you will be notified.  If we are out of a color in the width ordered, you will be notified of the expected shipment date and given the opportunity to substitute a different color.  All orders are shipped USPS Priority Mail (2-3 business days).  Most customers receive their orders within one week of ordering.

How do you measure Leashes and Long Lines?

Leashes and Long Lines are measured from the tip of the clasp (where it attaches to your dog’s harness or collar) to the fold in the loop handle.  The clasp is included in the overall measurement.

May I order a different length than what Palomine Lines has listed?

Yes! Palomine Lines will make your custom leash or long line to your specifications.  Contact us to give us your specific requirements and we will send you an electronic invoice that can be paid online.

What are Distance Markers?

Distance markers are rivets placed along a long line to let you know how far away you are from your dog.  In AKC tracking, a dog must work 10-ft or 20-ft away from its handler depending on the type of tracking test.  Distance markers are measured from the snap back to the handle.

My dog chewed my Palomine Line.  Will you repair it?

Of course!  Return your line, along with your contact information, to Palomine Lines, 2510 Birkdale Ln, Kerrville TX 78028.  Please wash it before returning it to us.  The line will be shortened because we will have to cut off the chewed end.  Repairs are free, but shipping costs are the responsibility of the Buyer.  We will send you an electronic invoice for the shipping charges prior to repair.

TIPS

HAVE A STICKY CLASP?  We have a fix:

  1. Purchase powdered graphite lubricant from your local hardware store;
  2. Cover work area;
  3. Wear rubber or latex gloves;
  4. Gently squeeze a small amount of graphite into the groove under the slide (moving part) of your clasp. Avoid getting graphite on clothing and leash or line;
  5. Work the slide up and down until it moves freely;
  6. Tap clasp on covered work area to remove excess graphite and wipe clasp clean with soft cloth. We recommend using graphite when Palomine Lines are used in wet environments or after washing to keep clasps in good working order.

Cleaning your PALOMINE LINE

A fast wipe with a damp, soft cloth is usually all your Palomine Line needs.  However, when I need my line to look new again, I wash it in a bucket of warm water and dissolved, powdered OxyClean™.  If I find a stubborn stain, I gently rub it with a damp Mr. Clean Magic Eraser™. I then rinse the line in clear water and either dry it with a soft towel or hang it to dry.  Inspect and test the clasp to determine if it needs powdered graphite for maintenance.

If your Palomine Line is used by multiple, unknown dogs in training clubs, vet clinics, animal shelters, and/or dog parks, it needs to be washed on a regular basis.  Although Palomine Lines (BioThane®) is antimicrobial, we recommend washing them with a multi-purpose germicidal detergent such as KenneLSol™ in accordance with its label directions.

CARABINERS AND S-BINERS

Carabiners and S-Biners are a dog handler’s best friend.  Be sure to get the appropriate size for your Palomine Line and your dog!

  • Sometimes having an O-ring in the handle becomes uncomfortable, but with a carabiner you can remove it when you want.
  • If you like to wear the leash around your shoulders or waist at times, the carabiner will hold it there securely.
  • Attach the carabiner to the handle of your leash and anchor the carabiner to a belt loop. Thread the leash clasp through the carabiner and attach the clasp to your dog’s collar or harness.  Your leash will then be a hands-free leash.
  • When not in use, your long line can be secured to your belt loop using a carabiner.
  • When a carabiner is attached to your handle, it can then be clipped to the swivel part of the clasp (where the line material is threaded through the eye of the clasp) making your leash or long line half its original length.
  • A carabiner can turn your leash into a slip lead. Simply attach the carabiner to the clasp or handle and thread the rest of the leash through the carabiner.
